Before the Whistle

Coming from a 4-1 win on the road, Virginia Beach United is ready to take on Wake FC, the same opponent from last Saturday. A win tomorrow, June 9th, will put VBU one step closer to winning the South Atlantic Division title.
Who’s on the Other Side?
Both teams just played each other last weekend, and the loss put Wake FC in the last position in the league standings with a 3-7-3 record. When playing away, Wake has won one single game against Lionsbridge FC and lost all the other five. One of those losses was on June 8th, when VBU beat them 2-0.
What Do We Have?
Virginia Beach United’s striker Donnett Sackie holds the sixth place in the table of goals leaders in USL 2. With two more goals scored on Saturday and an assist, Sackie has seven goals in the regular season.
The man of the hour for VBU will lead the team up top while Oliver Padilla will run the show in the defense. Padilla has shown what he’s here for by making a good number of important saves and helping VB United earn important points. VBU’s keeper has the best Goals Against Average in the league (1.00).
What’s at Stake?
Being the second to last game of the regular season, Virginia Beach has its fate in its hands. Winning against Wake tomorrow will bring VBU up to 23 points, same amount of points as North Carolina Fusion U23. However, NC Fusion only has one game left, which means they can only go up to 26 points, and that game will be against VBU.
Long story short, a win tomorrow against Wake FC and a win against North Carolina Fusion will crown Virginia Beach United champions of the South Atlantic DIvision in the team’s first year of existence. Come support VBU in its last huge home game of the season at Virginia Beach Sportsplex. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM (ET).
