Before the Whistle

After grabbing a great home win Monday over Tri-Cities Otters, Virginia Beach United will go down to North Carolina to fight for three more points against Wake FC tomorrow night.
Who’s on the Other Side?
Wake FC currently sits sixth in the South Atlantic Division, right below VBU. However, they are five points behind VB United due to their poor 3-6-3 record.
Even though they will play at their stadium, this shouldn’t be a concerning factor for VBU. Wake FC has only obtained 50% percent of the points they could’ve earned when playing at home (9 out of 18). Plus, VBU has only lost one game on the road.
What Do We Have?
Looking to grab their third win on the road, VBU will count on Donnett Sackie to collect the three points tomorrow. Donnett is having a remarkable season for Virginia Beach United and has scored a total of five goals in the last four games. Besides scoring the first goal against the Otters on Monday, Sackie also gave an assist for the second goal, scored by Luis Martinez.
Another dangerous player that can help VBU bring home a win is Gui Leme. The Brazilian midfielder has helped the team with three goals and the assist for Sackie’s goal in the last contest.
What’s at Stake?
Wake FC no longer have a chance to win the league; a win over VBU would only cut the difference between the two teams to two points but it wouldn’t help the team’s case.
If VB United wins, they will jump up to 20 points and tie North Carolina Fusion, who is currently number two in the league. This result would bring VBU very close to North Carolina FC, who sits first with 21 points and is one game ahead.
The battle will take place tomorrow, July 6th, at Ting Park. The game is set for 7:00 PM (ET).
