Virginia Beach United (5-4-2) defeated the Tri-Cities Otters (4-4-3) Monday night in their USL 2 divisional match, earning their way to their third straight home win. With Monday night’s victory, VBU keeps themselves in contention for divisional leaders of the South Atlantic Division.
The first 15 minutes of the match were filled with possession and creative play from both teams. However, midway through the first half, VBU took control of the game and began to create some chances for themselves. Donnett Sackie of VBU had several shots on goal in the first half but was not able to find the back of the net until the 54th minute of the match. Sackie finally capitalized on a centered ball from Gui Leme, finishing what was a great combination play. VBU’s second goal came in the 61st minute when Luis Martinez scored an incredible volley into the bottom corner of the goal. Martinez was assisted by Sackie. VBU’s defense was able to see out the rest of the match without conceding.
Virginia Beach United showed that they are still fighting to be divisional leaders by outplaying the Otters in Monday night’s match and earning a 2-0 victory. Donnett Sackie was the man of the hour for VBU and looks to continue to create chances and score goals in their next match Saturday, July 6th, at Wake FC.
