The U23 Women's team of Virginia Beach United lost 3-1 against Virginia
Legacy last Saturday evening, June 15th, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

In the first ten minutes, there was a lot of physical play by both sides. It wasn’t until the 10th minute that the first shot was taken on goal. It was an extremely dangerous chance by Mary Morgan of Virginia Legacy. In the 13th minute, an athletic save by VBU’s keeper, Madeline Arndt, prevented the first visitor goal. Soon after, however, a lack of
communication from the center backs of Virginia Legacy prompted the first shot on goal by Riley Dowd of VBU, which was saved by the Legacy keeper.

With a counterattack well executed by the visiting team, Madeline Arndt of VBU was forced to make another strong save to keep the score tied at zero.

In the 31st minute, a great shot from Legacy’s Maddie Vincent, assisted by Mary Morgan, managed to create the first goal of the match and put the score at 0-1 for Virginia Legacy.

With the whistle of the referee beginning the second half, Kyra Ricks, of Virginia Legacy, managed to score a second goal for the visiting team. A great run by Mary Morgan created another change for Legacy which Mary took advantage of and buried the ball in the back of the net. The goal came in the 58th minute, putting Virginia Legacy up 0-3.

After a follow-up of rebounds and errors made by the defenders of Virginia Legacy in the penalty box, VBU’s Riley Dowd managed to find the goal and put VBU on the scoreboard. The final result of the match was 3-1 in favor of Virginia Legacy.
