The U23 men’s team of Virginia Beach United won by a bulky 8-3 margin against Virginia Legacy on Sunday morning at the Warhill Sports Complex.

VBU fans did not have long to wait after the referee’s starting whistle to witness the first goal for Virginia Beach United. Thanks to a great pass from Michael Dmytruk, Arei Moriano was able to score the first goal for VBU, with a confident finish to put the ball in the back of the net.  Then came the second goal, after a great individual play by Luis Garza, he managed to connect a pass to Diego Silva who scored easily.

As a result of a defensive error, goalkeeper John Ermini had to make a difficult save to avoid Virginia Legacy's first goal. One minute later, Rylan Horning from Virginia Legacy scored a goal but unfortunately for them the goal was called back due to an offside’s call.

Clay Obara in the 20th minute of the match, invented a spectacular play that he finished in order to get the third goal on the scoreboard. Alec Jackson joined the scorers when he managed to pick up a ball poorly defended by the rival defense. He made a great shot to put VBU up 4-0.

After a defensive error by VBU, Virginia Legacy managed to score their first goal of the day by Ethan Larson. In response to this goal by the home team, Alec Jackson guided the team again to put another ball in the net and made the score 5-1 at the end of the first half.

At the start of the second half, Roy Cox finished a ball that was received after poor decisions made by the rival team in the penalty area and thus put the score at 6-1. The game already seemed to be decided, but still Virginia Legacy managed to score two consecutive goals that put the score difference at 6-3. The two goal scorers were Joshua Everard and Stephen Couper.

In the 73rd minute of the game, a quality finish by Clay Obara allowed the score to go up to 7-3. To end the game off, Luis Garza finished a good play that ended in a goal to get a definitive score of 8-3.

Virginia Beach United Men’s U23 picked up a great win on Sunday, adding to their fantastic season so far. Starting next weekend, three consecutive matches will be played at Virginia Beach Sportsplex. It will be necessary to win all three of these games to certify the participation of the team in the playoffs. VBU looks forward to seeing the community come out on Sunday, June 23, at 5pm to cheer the Men’s U23 team on as they look to grab their fourth win and add to their perfect record thus far.
