May 6, 2019 – Peninsula vs. Southside. Now there’s a new way to settle the score: on the soccer pitch.
Lionsbridge Football Club and Virginia Beach United announced today the creation of the Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup, presented by Langley Federal Credit Union, a new rivalry series between the USL League Two teams separated by the Chesapeake Bay.
The first of this season’s matches will take place on Tuesday, May 14 at the Virginia Beach SportsPlex, the first-ever home game for Virginia Beach United. The series shifts to the Peninsula on May 22 at Pomoco Stadium on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News. Game three will also take place at Pomoco Stadium on June 26.
The winner of the annual Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup, presented by Langley Federal Credit Union, will be determined on soccer’s traditional point system, 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. The tiebreaker will be the aggregate score of the three games combined.
A representative from Langley Federal Credit Union will present the winning club with the Coastal Virginia Challenge Cup on the field after the third game of the series.
